An orthodontist is a dental specialist who is dedicated to diagnosing, preventing, and treating problems related to the alignment of the teeth and jaw. Their main goal is to improve the masticatory function, facial aesthetics, and oral health of their patients.
Some of the main functions of a pediatric dentist are:
Evaluate and diagnose: Perform clinical examinations and x-rays to identify malocclusion problems, such as crowded teeth, open bite, overbite, underbite, among others.
Design personalized treatment plans: Develop a specific treatment plan for each patient, considering their needs and objectives, using orthodontic appliances such as braces, clear aligners, retainers, and other devices.
Place and adjust orthodontic appliances: Install and adjust orthodontic appliances in the patient’s mouth, performing periodic check-ups to monitor treatment progress and make necessary adjustments.
Correct dental alignment problems: Gradually move teeth into the correct position by applying controlled forces with orthodontic appliances.
Improve chewing function: Corrects bite problems that can affect chewing, speech, and temporomandibular joint health.
Improve facial aesthetics: Aligns teeth and jaw to achieve a harmonious and balanced smile, improving the patient’s facial appearance.
Prevent future dental problems: Helps prevent problems such as cavities, periodontal disease, and tooth wear by correcting tooth alignment and improving oral hygiene.
Treat craniofacial development problems: In some cases, orthodontists work together with other specialists to treat craniofacial development problems in children and adolescents.
